Mijn naam is Ian Castricum. Ik ben 13 jaar oud en woon in Haarlem. Op mijn achtste ben ik, na vier jaar judo, begonnen met karate. Vrijwel direct na mijn overstap werd ik geselecteerd voor de wedstrijdselectie van mijn sportschool Kenamju Karate. Kenamju Karate is een van de beste sportscholen van Nederland en heeft al meerdere internationale kampioenen voortgebracht.
In de afgelopen jaren heb ik me ontwikkeld tot topsporter. Sinds vorig jaar maak ik deel uit van de Nederlandse jeugdselectie en sinds dit jaar ook van de Nationale U16-U18 selectie. Ik train vijf keer per week bij mijn sportschool en één keer per week met de Nationale selectie.
In het voorjaar van 2024 brak ik tijdens een toernooi mijn elleboog, waardoor ik pas na de zomer weer kon trainen. Gelukkig was dat precies op tijd om mij volledig te richten op mijn doel: geselecteerd worden voor het Europees Jeugdkampioenschap (EJK) 2026 in Cyprus én daar Europees kampioen worden.
Om geselecteerd te worden, tellen de resultaten van de volgende meetmomenten mee:
- Youth League Venetië – Italië
- Youth League Fujairah – Verenigde Arabische Emiraten
- Youth League Guadalajara – Spanje
- Arawaza Cup – Duitsland
- Open Liege – België
- Lion Cup – Luxemburg
- Polish Open – Polen
- Dutch Open for Youth – Nederland
- NK – Nederland
Het eerste resultaat op weg naar het EJK is al binnen. In december 2024 bereikte ik de kwartfinale op de Youth League in Venetië. De Youth League-toernooien worden georganiseerd door de World Karate Federation en vertegenwoordigen het hoogste niveau ter wereld. In een poule van 81 deelnemers stond ik bij de laatste 8.
In januari 2025 won ik bovendien het prestigieuze Rhein Shiai-toernooi in Duitsland.
Naast de meetmomenten zal ik deelnemen aan diverse andere toernooien in Duitsland en de Benelux om wedstrijdritme te behouden. Deelname aan deze toernooien brengt echter hoge kosten met zich mee.
Daarom start ik deze crowdfunding en vraag ik om uw steun. Met uw hulp kan ik dit jaar deelnemen aan alle geplande toernooien en mijn droom realiseren om Europees kampioen te worden.

My name is Ian Castricum. I am 13 years old and live in Haarlem, the Netherlands. At the age of eight, after four years of practicing judo, I started karate. Almost immediately after switching sports, I was selected for the competition team at my karate school, Kenamju Karate. Kenamju Karate is one of the best martial arts schools in the Netherlands and has produced several international champions.
Over the past few years, I have developed into a top athlete. Since last year, I have been part of the Dutch youth selection, and since this year, also of the National U16-U18 selection. I train five times a week at my karate school and once a week with the national team.
In the spring of 2024, I broke my elbow during a tournament, which meant I could only start training again after the summer. Fortunately, it was just in time to focus fully on my goal: getting selected for the European Youth Championship (EYC) 2026 in Cyprus and becoming the European champion.
To be selected, the results from the following events count:
Youth League Venice – Italy
Youth League Fujairah – United Arab Emirates
Youth League Guadalajara – Spain
Arawaza Cup – Germany
Open Liege – Belgium
Lion Cup – Luxembourg

The first result on the road to the EYC is already in! In December 2024, I reached the quarterfinals of the Youth League in Venice. The Youth League tournaments are organized by the World Karate Federation and represent the highest level of competition worldwide. In a pool of 81 participants, I made it to the final eight.
In January 2025, I also won the prestigious Rhein Shiai tournament in Germany.
In addition to the key selection events, I will participate in various other tournaments in the Netherlands, Germany, and the Benelux region to maintain competition rhythm. However, participating in these tournaments comes with significant costs.
This is why I am starting this crowdfunding campaign and asking for your support. With your help, I can compete in all the planned tournaments this year and achieve my dream of becoming the European champion.
